Posner 2005-Executive Attention Training & Transfer
This predates Jaeggi 2008. From the NYT article it was said that Jaeggi et al. developed an interest in wm training after seeing transfer in adhd children in early 2000 in a Klingberg study. In this study from 2005, children are training with a non-visual spatial task and experience transfer to IQ, vocab and matrices. Specifically from... more »

Is Iodine useful? maybe
I've put an iodine post up: [link] I've been working on this off and on for months. I think it's one of my better entries on that page, and I imagine some of the citations there will greatly interest readers - eg. not just the general IQ impacts, but that iodization causes voters to vote more liberally.... more »

Excellent Overview of what general intelligence is and why it matters by Linda Gottfredson
I really liked this article so I thought I'd share it. [link] "No subject in psychology has provoked more intense public controversy than the study of human intelligence. From its beginning, research on how and why people differ in overall mental ability has fallen prey to... more »

FWD: Questionable research practices surprisingly common
As a reminder for some of the issues that crop up during discussion of the research: Abstract (from the article itself): "Cases of clear scientific misconduct have received significant media attention recently, but less flagrant transgressions of research norms may be more prevalent and in the long run more damaging to the... more »

reply from Torkel Klinberg re: Is Working Memory Training Effective? A Meta-Analytic Review
Hi group, I am new to the group and quite intriqued with your discussions. I have corresponded with the Cogmed listserve and asked for Dr Klinberg to clarify his view. Please see below comment from Dr. Klingberg on the recent meta-analysis: “Is Working Memory Training Effective? A Meta-Analytic Review”... more »

Psychology Today article on working memory training
This is a somewhat old but good article by William Klemm, a psychologist. Klemm writes about studies done in Japan showing transfer of working memory training to fluid intelligence in children. The working memory tasks used are described as keeping a list of numbers in mind and remember order. Ex. 5389, and the children would... more »

Dual N Back For Depression
I was wondering if anyone else here plays dual n back to help with depression?? I did two hours of n backing on wednesday, five hours yesterday, and i've done about two hours so far today. I find that i make breakthroughs in my thinking rather quickly (within 3 or 4 days sometimes) when i push myself like this. I'm already feeling a whole... more »

25 Minutes or 20 Sessions
Is there an agreement on how much to train daily - 25 minutes a day or 20 sessions. The original article that got me interested in n-back training said 20-25 minutes a day, so that's what I'm doing. This comes out to roughly 15 sessions. But I take 10 second breaks in between each session. (Should I not do the breaks?) People seem to reference 20... more »

Selecting N (instead of progressing through to a certain N-back number)
Hi all, I'm a little new to the software, but I've been working through the options and can't find one to 'set' the N-back number (ie. start training at a 3-back instead of 2-back). Is this possible, or must one progress up from 2-back to X-back? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, -Stefan
