I have just started music training, that is playing drums at home and
piano at school when time is available. This summer I will spend most
of my time learning more about music, playing, theory ... etc why?
1. Because it is fun.
2. As a side-effect, possible positive changes in cognitive function.

Regarding the second point, it will be cool to examine any noticable
differences in cognition.

I spend much time on the bus with my computer, on avarage ~1 hour per
day. Is there any cool music software out there that trains "musical
abilities"? This is a very open definition, and I expect a broad range
of answers, or none answers.

May be have a look at...

 http://www.ambrosepianotabs.com/

I've been using this system for a couple of weeks for the piano... its really has been very helpful as I just started playing.
Also I've just started to learn... the ukuelel, as its cheap and fun ... and the didgerido...for circular breathing training... probably not good for the other passengers on your bus trip tho! ! :-)
