Hi

Just thought i'd do a quick writeup for an iOS based n-back app which
i've spent some time with. I've tried 4 different iOS n-back apps now
and i've settled for the one with the most features, called
betterbrain...

I'm not affiliated with the developer but i recently sent him a list
of additions which would make the app a whole lot better and he's
released version 2.0 a couple of days ago and has included all the
changes I requested!!! I've very excited about it as I don't like
being tied to a desktop to do my n-backing, but i miss the options
available in Brain Workshop. I think the app is well worth the price
of a coffee at £1.99. Hope some of us can support this guy so that he
continues to develop the app :)

Anyways I'm going to send him a mail requesting crab-back mode and
also interference settings (as they should be fairly easy'ish to
implement and have the best bang-for-buck... Maybe he'll add in
combination n-back and arithmetic n-back if we ask nicely! :)

Cheers
Sunil

I'm thinking of buying an ipod touch purely for dnb, anki, khan academy and a few other bits and pieces. It seems a little extravagant though...

Hi James

You should definately get an ipod touch for this reason, it's so
versatile and you'll soon discover a wealth of apps that fill the void
when you don't have a desktop to hand. Some apps I simply prefer the
mobile implementations over desktop! Check out reeder/streamtome/
tunein radio/dropbox for example

Taken a look at Khan Academy before and i forgot to go back again, but
your link has refreshed me again... favourited!

I've not seen anki before but love the concept... reminds me of an
idea I had way back where we could share mind maps... £17 for the ios
app is steep but i'm signing up for an online account to see what
shared content is out there atm to see if it's worth splashing out...

Cheers

Better brain is decent, but is there an ios app that has the audio/
visual on the same sides as brain workshop?

Good question. Don't think so! I ended up swapping the keyboard
mappings in brain workshop over to match all the iOS n-back apps which
are reversed! Mainly because i train on mobile 90% of the time

I use BrainFit, its by MindSparke and is only a few dollars on the app store. It doesn't have all the fancy customization bells and whistles but the interface is pretty and it has buttons on the correct side.

Huge fan of BetterBrain here.
The developer, Peter Schorn (sp?) is extremely responsive. And I
apologize - one reason the buttons are as they are is because I
requested it. Perhaps you could ask him to make the configurable?
Don't know how hard tha would be...
I personally dislike MindSparke if only because their marketing is (or
was) SO upper-class cheesy, and they charged such a ridiculous premium
for their stuff (or did).

Just bought BetterBrain to support development. Tested it out and I like it better in a few ways. Interface is quite clumsy, however I enjoy the extra options. how do I switch audio and visual button sides?

you can't change the button layout unfortunately. Better off
reconfiguring Brain Workshop, if you use that, like i have :)

You can edit the config file in BW to do this. Just check it out - i'm
at work, so can't get you the info right now
