Not much changed, but music should work again (and that AVBin screen
that apparently everyone was getting but nobody mentioned should be gone
now except for people who actually have AVBin/DEP issues). Also, should
work on OSes other than Win32 again.

I just installed it and everything's smooth so far. :)

Although, I think it's still labelled as 4.8.1 in the control panel.

OSX?
If you remove the old one and start the new one named "Brain
Workshop.app", then it'll read 4.8.4. At least that helped for me.

in the mac osx version, where is the folder that allows us to
reconfigure the game settings (black background, faster pace, etc.)?
it was under 'config' in version 4.8.3.

You *should* also be able to simply press "o" at the main menu to open
the config file, although I suppose I haven't tested that that works on
Mac OS X yet. Could you test that and tell me if it works?

No, or So-So.

On my computer, it starts up my virtual Windows-computer just to fire up NOTEPAD.EXE to open the configfile.

So it works even if it made me laugh.

On a computer sans NOTEPAD.EXE, I don't know...

Heh. I bet if you double-clicked on an .ini file in Finder, it would
launch Notepad too. I suggest you try using Finder to re-associate files
with the .ini extension with TextEdit.

Actually, I tested now in finder. And it opens up TextMate.
But going back to BW, it *also* opens up TextMate.
I'm utterly confused.

Well. I'm not blaming BrainWorkshop, anyway.

My guess: It probably depends on whether you have a Windows virtual
machine running. VMWare or Parallels or whatever probably dynamically
adjusts the file associations when it's running.

Anyway, glad to hear it's working. If there's anyone on Linux out there,
it would be nice to hear if this feature works for you too.

Hello all, newbie here, I have two questions:

1) Is there an estimate to when the new version will come out of beta?

2) Is there a way to move my stats.txt file to my Dropbox folder and
configure Brain Workshop to use the file in the new location?

Thanks!

Nope. I've had some downtime recently while waiting for some components
to arrive, but they're here now and so I don't have much free time any
longer. I'm also hoping/waiting for some contributions from a couple of
people who offered to write some code for the project, and I don't know
if or when they'll finish. Doesn't really matter, though; "beta" doesn't
really mean much. It's just something I use to refer to versions that I
won't or haven't yet linked on the main website. Version 4.8.4 beta
seems to have fewer bugs and more features than 4.8.1.

Maybe? I don't know how Dropbox works. You could use symlinks
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic_link) on Linux, Mac OS X, or
versions of Windows after XP. You might also be able to set Dropbox up
to just sync up your Brain Workshop/data folder.

Dear Jonathan,
please help me to determine where's the problem with my python setup,

Ubuntu 12.04,

Python 2.7.3

I keep having the same exception:

found it,
by removing libgl1-mesa-dev from synaptic package manager, it works smoothly.
Not sure if other apps are affected by the mesa library removal.

Thanks for this post, that was an annoying bug.

I am not comfortable deleting system packages to get something to
work.

How I got around the problem on Ubuntu 12.04:

Rename the pyglet directory under /brainworkshop so it was no longer
accessible.

I just guessed the included copy of pyglet might be interfering with
the system version.

It worked. Dual N Back is working fine with the mesa packages intact.
