Forsythe Canyon Restoration - May 12-13- VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Forsythe Canyon Restoration
May 12 & 13, 2012
Enjoy spring in the mountains! Join us!

Come camp and work with us to improve and restore one of the most
beautiful National Forest access points in Boulder County. Our
project site is where Winiger Ridge Road (Forest Road 359), leaves
County Road 68 and heads towards Gross Reservoir. It is also the
trailhead for the Forsythe Canyon Trail. People come to this area for
a wide variety of activities including: hiking, biking, horseback
riding, OHV driving, camping, fishing, boating, and to just enjoy the
plants, wildlife and spectacular scenery.

HISTORY

In 2011, a new parking area and bathroom was built to better
accommodate visitors to the area. The construction has left an area
of disturbance all around the new facility in need of vegetation.
Also, the parking area is now the new trailhead and will allow for the
old trailhead to be restored.

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES

Volunteers will be planting up to 1,000 native trees and shrubs,
spreading seeds of native grasses and wildflowers, and helping with
erosion control. At the old trailhead, the plants and soils have been
heavily impacted so we will be seeding and mulching this site. To add
to the variety of work, we will also be doing some trail construction
to link the new trailhead to the existing Forsythe Canyon Trail.

COME AND JOIN US

If you like to have fun while getting important work done, sign up and
join us. The work site is west of Boulder near Magnolia Road. It's
located at 7,600 feet and just 30 minutes from Boulder. We will camp
in a beautiful area near the work site. Food is provided by talented
WRV cooks! Friday night arrival is encouraged to get a great start in
the morning.

More details will be sent after you register - about 7-10 days prior
to the project.
