West Magnolia Trail Project - June 2 & 3 - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

West Magnolia Trail Project
June 2 & 3, 2012

Come and join us on National Trails Day, build a trail, and camp!
Only 30 minutes drive from Boulder, the extremely popular West
Magnolia trail network southwest of Nederland is being severely
impacted by the exploding mountain pine beetle epidemic. The US
Forest Service is doing extensive mitigation to keep the public safe
from falling trees and to reduce wildfire hazards.

The mitigation efforts will be impacting this heavily used trail
system. These trails are especially popular for mountainbikers. As
the Forest Service mitigation efforts continue, Wildlands Restoration
Volunteers (WRV) have teaned up with Boulder Mountainbike Allience
(BMA) to restore and improve the trail system. We hope to continue
this partnership in the West Magnolia area for years to come.

VOLUNTEER WORK

On June 2 and 3 (Saturday and Sunday) we will constructing 575 feet of
new trail and rebuilding and repairing another 300 feet of the Sugar
Magnolia Trail. The project will be an opportunity to learn and
participate in a variety of technical trail skills ranging from heavy
rockwork to boardwalk construction and causway construction. In
addition to trail construction we will also be closing a portion of
unsustainable trail and restoring it to natural forest conditions.

At 8,500 feet in elevation, this moderate to difficult work will
include: construction of a great new trail to replace an unsustainable
eroded trail, trail side revegetation and seeding, and old trail
obliteration and restoration.

We'll camp in a beautiful area near the worksite. Food is provided
by talented veteran WRV cooks! Friday night arrival is encouraged to
get a great start in the morning. We still have spaces left, so hop
on board and register now for this much-needed trail and restoration
work!

More details will be sent after you register - about 7 days prior to
the project.
