You're very welcome to the Boston Uilleann Pipers' Group. Glad to hear you're getting lessons at CCÉ - you'll know Matt Leipert and Patrick Hutchinson from there, and you'll find them in here too, though they're pretty quiet. I'm afraid things have been very quiet lately, so don't be surprised if there's very little traffic on this emailing list. We haven't had a formal club meeting in several months. That doesn't mean people aren't interested in getting together (I think!), it just means that temporarily, other things had to come first (school, summer vacations, babies, etc.)
New members, like yourself, are the lifeblood of a group like this, and if you're keen to meet for some tunes, or to talk pipes, or get some help with reeds as we settle into winter, just spread the word on this group. There are about 50 people on this mailing list, some of whom are far away (e.g., Los Angeles or Co. Clare), but many are right here in the Boston area.
Don't forget to check out the website (on google groups), for pictures of past meetings and festivals, recordings of tunes we've learned together, even transcriptions of some of them. The club belongs to its members, and you're one now.
Frank,
Hi, I am new to the group. I live in Quincy and just bought a practice set of pipes. I bought them on ebay, but had my family in Ireland guide me somewhat. Anyways, I got a noise out of them, like a goose, but havnt been able to get a sound since then. Is there anyplace around here where I could get lessons. These things are a little more complicated than the tin whistle, and are only a practice set. Mike Slade

Hi Mike,
I don't know if you received any responses to your post so I thought I would chime in. The only local instruction that I know of is at the CCE classes:
http://www.ccebostonmusicschool.org/ This half they are held at Harvard and are being taught by Patrick Hutchinson. This semester is over in a few weeks but there is another that starts at the beginning of next year, although I'm not sure about the location. I started playing in June of this year and am enrolled at CCE this half. Who made your half set?
Hi Don, I am not sure exactly who made them. I know that they came from England and it is Blackwood. I hoope to attend that school next semester. Hopefully, I will get a little more sound from them. Thanks for takeing the time to write.
