I was wondering if anyone out there would be interested in a hackfest a little west of the city? I'm thinking in and around the Lexington/Concord area. I love hackfests but have a tough time making it into Cambridge on Tuesday nights.

Here's some ideas on this additional hackfest:

* never on a Tuesday night or 4th Wednesday of the month
* no presentations. just hacking, helping and hanging out
* rotate locations. I think I'd prefer local coffee shops/pubs over work places
* Waltham is as far east the hackfest will travel
* hoping that this can be part of the boston.rb family
* compliment, not compete, with boston.rb and the MetroWest Ruby meetup

Thoughts? Interested?

Thanks.
Mike

I would be interested in something around Waltham. I am on the south
shore, but parking and traffic can make traveling into the city
inconvenient at times

I may attend every so often—even though I live in Cambridge and can jump on the red line to get downtown to the hackfests, I do like to get out to the Lexington/Concord area for a change (normally for something food-related, or just for a nice drive).

Parking in the eastern end of Cambridge at 7PM weeknights isn't too
bad. Even downtown boston, there are usually street spots in the
Financial District, at 7PM.

I'd be up for it. I could do Concord, Lexington or Waltham.

I'd love to do this. Waltham would be best.

Sounds like Waltham should be our first stop. Does anyone have a suggestion for a venue? I'm not all that familiar with Waltham.

Panera is probably decent - not super far off 95 and I heard it has this free service called wireless interweb or something...not sure what that's all about but it sounds good.

If you do it somewhere near Main & Moody streets in Waltham, then
people from the city can easily reach it via commuter rail (Fitchburg
Line) or bus (70, 70A, various express buses)

If anyone is going through Brookline and wouldn't mind picking up a fellow Rubyist let me know :)

Panera is a good place for meeting up since there is free wireless.
+1 for panera!

Might be possible to use IBM's facility in Waltham. They've got conference rooms with projectors for breakout sessions, and they like people using the space.

If interested, I can make some calls

Hey Keith,

Thanks for the offer but for the first few it might be a good idea to meet at a coffee shop/restaurant/pub. That way we don't have to worry about food and beverages. Anyone else have some thoughts on this?

+1 on the Main & Moody streets location. But does anyone know of a spot that would be good for a hackfest? I've been to a couple restaurants on Moody street and I wouldn't say that they are "hackfest friendly".

+1 Waltham - count me in also. I work in Waltham so this would be very convenient. So when is this happening??

Main & Moody streets have lots of restaurant/bar options, but no obvious venue for us comes to mind.

Hey everyone,

So it sounds like Panera[1] is the winner. Now on to the really hard part: picking the day/time. I'd love to really shake things up and have a breakfast or lunch hackfest but I realize that won't work for most people. So how about Thursday the 17th at ??:?? am/pm (please feel to suggest day/time)?

Best,
Mike

Panera sounds great. I'd love to meet up with ya'all but Tues/Thurs
are tough for me. Anyone up for a Wed or Fri at 7pm? -Liana
