Yesterday evening I installed a fresh copy of BDS2006 Prof on my laptop.
After installation I verified if everything was OK and registered it. Next I
wanted to apply update #2 and it seemed that it went OK ... BUT ... when
trying to start BDS2006 it just flashed the black splashscreen and stopped
again. I thought it maybe had to do with the fact that I had .NET 1.0 and
1.1 installed, so I removed 1.0 ... no relief ... so I uninstalled and
re-installed BDS2006 again (what a h*ll of a job ...) and the same
happenend. I do not have anything special installed, just MS Office and some
small utilities. The system is an Acer laptop with a P4 2.53 Mhz, 512MB
memory and 30GB HD
Does anybody have clue?
TIA
Bert.
Disk space? You need 1.7gig free.

Maybe you have some leftovers from the previous version.
Configuration files etc... which when only browsed by the
IDE during startup already crash it.
Regards!
Atmap uri
7.0 Gig free ... so that can't be the problem ...

Hmmm, then why does the fresh install runs as expected and *after* applying
Update #2 it doesn't ???

I've found the problem.
In the directory <AppData>\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\<large directory name> there
is a file which BDS accesses while startup.
You can check with FileMon (www.sysinternals.com) which one it is.
Delete this file, then Delphi Update #2 starts normally.
Hope this helps

It sounds like someone found the solution to your problem, but on the
subject of RAM, I think you'll have a much better D2006 experience if you
have at least 1GB, preferably 2BG, in my experience.
I'll try that right away ...

512 is OK, but 1GB+ is recommended:

IB 6 versions prior to 6.0.1.6 are pre-release and may corrupt
your DBs! Open Edition users, get 6.0.1.6 from http://mers.com
Nope, just plain XP with all updates since yesterday evening ...
