With the multitude of postings regarding versioning, it would seem that something should make sense. One post says everything is the same, another says almost the same, etc. etc.
Can anyone explain the exact difference between Turbo C++ Professional and C++ Builder 2006 Professional?
I can buy C++ Builder 2006 Professional Upgrade for $460.00 U.S. Dollars from the Borland United States Online Shop.
I can also buy Turbo C++ Professional Upgrade Explorer for $459.00 Canadian Dollars from the Borland Canada Online Shop.
So, which should I buy? Evidently they are different products, I think. Maybe they are the same, and they accidently changed the Product name instead of the currency values. Who knows! If they are the same product, it looks like the Canadian shop is offering a better deal (until you add taxes).
Turbo C++ is a 'one personality' (sigle language: C++) version of BDS 2006.
BDS2006: 4 languages (C++, Delphi, Delphi.NET, C#)
Also: Turbo C++ comes in two flavors: -Explorer (free) -Profesional (something around U$S 400-450 depending your local reseller).
BDS2006 comes in three flavours: - Profesional - Enterprise - Arquitech (Not available for C++)
For current users of Borland C++ builder there is an upgrade path to BDS 2006 (ask your local representative for quotation).
Since Turbo C++ is a new line, there is no upgrade from previous Borland C++/Builder C++/CBX.
Recomendation: If you are a registred user of BCB and want to explore/need to use C#,Delphi, or Delphi.NET => BDS2006 is the way to go. If you just want to get the best C++ RAD available today =>buy a new Turbo C++.

BDS 2006 is the full developer suite, containing all of the language personalities (Delphi, C++, C#) in a single product. The Turbo products are slimmed down versions of that same suite, where each Turbo product is specialize to a specific personality individually. If you don't need to do development in multiple languages, and don't need the higher end Enterprise features, then BDS is overkill for you. The Turbo products are geared more towards the hobbyist programmers and students who just want to focus on code without all of the extra features.

Ok, thanks guys.
To make sure I have this correct, C++ Builder 2006 = BDS 2006, just with a different name, right?
So with C++ Builder 2006 Professional, I get all 4 personalities (Delphi, Delphi.NET, C++, C#).
I think I'll go for the C++ Builder 2006 then (I already have BCB5 and BCB6), as it isn't that much more money (I found it is $555 CDN for upgrade; only $95 more than Turbo C++).

Yes. BDS = Borland Developer Suite. That is the official product name for the 2006 series of applications. C++Builder is just an extra branding to let people know it is a new version of the older product, but it is technically the BDS product list now.

C++Builder 2006 is actually BDS 2006, which has all four personalities, yes. C++Builder 2006, Delphi 2006, C#Builder 2006, they are all the same BDS product. They ship the same BDS product in their respective boxes.
