Rolly has been editing, persisting, nudging, prodding, and being an all around good chap about getting me to revise and update How To Think Like a Computer Scientist: Learning to Program with Boo.
The book is a gentle introduction to computer programming and the Boo language.
It is great! Thanks for sharing PDF. I will recommend this book to everybody who wants to start learning Boo. Will buy a paper copy too. As you said in your book "Part of Python's success is the wealth of documentation available for the beginning programmer". So this book is a very good thing for Boo community. Congratulations!

Very very nice, thank you! I second thanking you for sharing this, especially because we do not have much documentation available, all this for free... THANK YOU!

Hey, thanks for sharing this with us. It is extremely useful. :)
Btw, how is the IDE support for Boo? I know Sharpdevelop has some also Monodevelop, but I never managed to get it work.
I'm asking because it looks like I'll have some more spare time I could spend with some open source development, and I would like to help Boo, because I really like the language. :)
Cheers,
Tibold

Its a shame Boo doesn't have any visibility with MonoDevelop (it once did?). I would think making Boo part of the normal MD versions would help Boo reach out to other platforms besides Windows and help Boocreach the wider audience it deserves.

I agree completely, though MD itself has some issues. For example it's not running on my Suse because the gnome platform plugin crashes. So I couldn't use MD for my mono development. Suse does have a working MD but it's an older version. Also the Boo plugin doesn't work at all.

On the other hand, the Boo that comes in SharpDevelop is 0.9.4.3504, & the latest stable release of Boo is 0.9.4.9 Perhaps the SharpDevelop project needs some assistance integrating(?) the latest Boo.

One possibility that might work especially well for new students with this
new book is Calico (http://calicoproject.org). Calico is designed to be an
IDE for new students learning CS.
If you download Calico, go to menu -> Calico -> Languages and check Boo.
You can then switch to Boo (menu -> Shell -> Languages -> Boo) and
interactively use Boo.
Also, our libraries work with Boo. So you can control robots, use the
"Processing" graphics library, control sprites, use the Kinect, talk to the
Arduino, program angry birds, etc. See:
http://calicoproject.org/Calico_Nifty_Projects
And also there is some language interop available (call one language from
another).
We haven't tied the stepper, debugger, and command-line completion into Boo
yet. If anyone is interested in contributing to this open source project,
let me know!
