At the First International Congress of Anti-imperialist Indigenous Peoples, work tables announced the conclusions regarding the following issues: Community Councils: Expression of Community Power and the importance of indigenous languages, ALBA: A proposal for the Abya Ayala’s (America’s) unity, U.S. Imperialism: Why is it a danger for the Abya Ayala’s indigenous people?, and the Bolivarian Revolution: Five Constituent Motors and the contribution of the indigenous peoples.

The Venezuelan Minister of Popular Power for Indigenous People, Nicia Maldonado, was one pf the Venezuelan authorities who led this event.

Indigenous Continental Television

This proposal was made in order to implement a tool to face the empire’s media bombarding. Minister Maldonado explained that it was an excellent idea if we take into account that a war is being fought in front of microphones.

Those who make such a proposal expect to have the support of presidents Hugo Chávez, Evo Morales, Fidel Castro and Daniel Ortega.

The indigenous people participating in this international event think that communication is fundamental in order to preserve their culture and move forward towards a process to set indigenous peoples’ ideological liberation. This is the reason why they proposed:

• The union of Abya Yala’s peoples in order to counteract the U.S. empire.

• To strengthen community radio stations in all the countries.

• The creation of Web Pages with the participation of the continent’s people.

• The creation of spaces to train indigenous social journalists.

• The evaluation of the cross-cultural process taking place in many indigenous peoples.

• To use indigenous languages in the media.

The discussions also included other issues such as Indigenous-American Socialism: Foundation of Indigenous Thought; and Capitalism: Enemy of Biodiversity vs. Socialism of the XXI Century: The Path to Save the world.

Likewise, the Venezuelan Vice-president, Jorge Rodríguez, granted over ten land deeds to indigenous people in Venezuela. He also granted Indigenous Community Councils funds amounting to US $ 46.5 million.

The First International Congress of Anti-imperialist Indigenous Peoples included the participation of over 700 indigenous people from Venezuela and other countries.
