Citgo
Petroleum Corporation, subsidiary of Venezuelan state-owned oil company
PDVSA, will donate US $ 3.3 million for the next three years to nine
non-profit organizations from the Bronx, according to NY’s newspaper La
Prensa online edition.
Venezuela’s help was praised by U.S.
congressman José Serrano, who passed on and processed the endowment
request in Citgo.
Serrano made public this help during an event held in Rocking the
Boat,
one of the organizations receiving the donation. This event was also
attended by Citgo’s President, Alejandro Granado; and the Venezuelan
Ambassador to the United States, Bernardo Álvarez.
The U.S.
congressman congratulated the Venezuelan oil subsidiary for its
contribution to the local community and explained that the money will
be used in educative programs, the cleaning up of the Bronx River and
help to pregnant women and organizations promoting civil rights.
Last
year, Citgo coordinated the sale of 25 million oil gallons with a 40%
discount in South Bronx in order to benefit 200,000 citizens from New
York and provide heating to 70,000 houses.
