Dear All,

I was wondering  if anyone knows how Usenet works, and how newsgroups are organized and what sort of datafiles are associated with it.
Ofcourse I have done googling regarding the same, but I still am not able to understand since I am having a mental picture of it as sort of a cocoon of sharing systems like Limewire or stuffs. But in todays era the architecture is not used that much,so I was wondering if the NNTP protocol used for that could be emulated or tweaked to run on something like  XML feeds or something.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards and Thanks

Amar,
You might want to look at RFC 1849 - News Article Format and
Transmission - over at http://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc1849

Heyy Harish,

The memo certainly is an elaborated documentation of RFC,but my main query or inquisitiveness is whether it can be modified/tweaked in some ways to act as XML feeds/files,since a newsfilter I am intending to use runs on NNTP protocol and gather sources from the usenet newsgroup, but thats obsolete,I wish if I could use XML feeds to fetch the news and read/filter them.

Thanks

Hi Amar:

Not an answer to your question. However, isn't your newsgroup archived
by Google Groups? In that case, RSS feeds should be easy to grab.
Google didn't quite throw up much, when searched for what you are
looking for.

May be you could set up a custom "polling" client for the Usenet and
just pull data when anything new is available. throwing ideas. No
experience with this.

HTH,
Amit
