Hi,
When I say the memory required by a process what does it mean??
I have come across various terms like resident memory, shared memory etc.
What I want to find out is the memory occupied by run time objects like vectors, hashtables etc.
How do I find that out?

You can check out the profiling tools (visual as well as command line) which comes with JDK like VisualVM, JConsole etc. Ted Neward's latest DeveloperWorks series nicely describes about them

Thanks,
Kaushik
