Bluemont Civic Association (BCA) Members:
February 25 Meeting, 7:30 pm
At Lubber Run Community Center The February meeting will be held at Lubber Run Community Center (at the corner of N. George Mason Drive and N. Park Road).
BCA’s 1/28 meeting was canceled due to inclement weather. Ryan Whittier (originally scheduled for the January meeting), of Crimson Urban LLC, has been invited to the February meeting. He will present plans for The Crimson on Glebe—a new 5-story, mixed-use building that will replace the Goodyear tire center located at 650 N. Glebe Road. The building will be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified and will include 115 apartments and 9,000 square feet of ground-level restaurant/retail space. For more details, visit www.crimsonpartners.net/crimson_on_glebe.html.
Also on 2/25, the membership will vote on whether to formally update Bluemont’s Neighborhood Conservation (NC) Plan. This approximately two-year process would require BCA to distribute a survey to all households (about 2,000) within BCA’s boundaries. The county would pay to print but not mail the survey.
A vote will be taken to approve moving the April general membership meeting from 4/22/09 to 4/29/09 (to facilitate hand-delivery of the spring neighborhood-wide newsletter). We will vote to approve funds for the Neighborhood Day spring barbecue (volunteers are needed). And we will review options to replace the Bluemont Park fence removed last year in August; members may vote on the preferred option, unless the membership requests a deferral until the March meeting. (To see pictures of fence styles and other details, visit www.bluemontcivic.org.)
Please note that only current BCA members may vote. Dues ($15, cash or check) can be paid at the meeting. A membership expiration date is printed on your newsletter’s mailing label. If you did not receive a printed newsletter in the mail within the past week, then your membership has expired.
Inclement Weather Policy Should inclement weather force Arlington Public Schools to close on a day that a BCA meeting also has been scheduled, then the BCA meeting will be canceled. Please note that Lubber Run Community Center also generally closes when Arlington Public Schools close for snow/ice. Check the BCA Website (www.bluemontcivic.org) for updated information.
