I'm really ticked off about this. Apparently none of my visitors can
leave comments on my site that has their URL linked to their name to
their sites as in the past unless they have a Google/Blogger acct.
This did NOT used to be the case and it is ticking me off. What if
they don't want one? I don't want to require it for them to visit my
site and leave comments and URL links with their names. When I signed
up with Blogger this was not the case. Will someone please tell why
the change? I have had a drastic reduction in visits and comments
because of it. I was sick and didn't notice it until one of my
readers emailed me a heads up.
THANKS FOR NOTHING BLOGGER! I'm really beginning to hate google/
blogger. Wow Blogger you continue to disappoint. I think I will get
in touch with IDG networks publishers of PC World and let them know
what's up with blogger now. They interviewed me once before about
what I thought and I think they might be interested in what I think
now.
Agreed 100% I'm sure they had good intentions with this new OpenID system they set up, but the implementation that they've gone with is
horrible. Just horrible.

Blogger made a change. They are trying to anticipate the use of OpenID soon (Blogger in Draft has it now) so then many of the blogging
platforms will be able to comment with their log in from other sources
but for now, the nickname is the only option for other. Links have to
be included in the comment section itself until the OpenID goes live
for everyone (and even then, those not using OpenID will have to
continue to link in the comment box).

Thanks I did Try the Open ID and it didn't work on my blog. I tried
to leave a comment using my URL and it told me "incorrect URL"
perhaps because I use outside hosting which many of us do.
I suggested they return it to the old way and added to the wish list.

Yeah, the open ID only works if you are using Open ID at your hosting
service....so it will end up working well for those at Wordpress, Live
Journal and a couple of other places but those on their own sites
might not have any luck with it.

In the older Blogger version, it was possible to post a comment with a
nickname and there was also a field to put your own url in. This url
field is gone now, will this function come back?
No because they took it out to keep people from impersonating others.
As soon as the OpenID goes live on regular blogger (it is only on
blogger in draft right now), many people will be able to leave their
url links because it will be attached to their log ins from other
services, like Wordpress, or LiveJournal. Those using their own sites
and publishing FTP will have to enable OpenID on their service to be
able to use it. Otherwise links can be left in the comment window only
for those that will be using the nickname function.

Open ID stinks...I couldn't even leave a test comment when I tried the
Open ID in The blogger draft mode even though I tried using my own
URL. It doesn't work when you have outside hosting like many of my
visitors and I myself have.

Just another thought too...I don't think many people who have outside
hosting will want to go through the trouble of registering for Open
ID, personally I am a bit leery of it myself. I don't know if I quite
trust it.

I know another one our Blog Stars did it with her site and seems to
think it works well. I don't know, since all my blogs are hosted here
or on other OpenID places...

They aren't going to bring it back but when the Open ID goes live for
everyone...a lot more people will be able to leave their links without
having to post them in the comment form itself.
Thanks for giving this feedback. I want to let you know that it's not
going unnoticed. We understand that some folks are missing the URL
field. However, we're pumped about the OpenID functionality,
especially since it'll allow for much more authenticated commenting.
Since we like to hear what everyone has to say about these changes,
I'll pass along your info to the rest of the team here.

I think the OpenID move was good. The big problem was that most people
didn't really understand what it was all about and finding information
about how to set it up to have the same effect as before was difficult
to find. I briefly wrote up how to set up OpenID to work with any
website or blog regardless of platform or domain here:
http://gregbecerra.blogspot.com/2007/12/more-to-suck-on.html
That said, I still like that you all returned the previous
functionality. As long as Blogger users have the option to limit to
registered users only, that gives us more control. So thanks on both
accounts, for adding the OpenID functionality, and for bringing back
functionality for those that have looser security standards.

Hope this don't mean bringing back "Other" as it clearly is open to
abuse. The correct move to to address all problems regarding Open ID,
not bring back "Other". Hope you pass that back to Blogger as well. I
am sure Blogger doesn't not want to be responsible for bloggers
wrongly defamed or detained. You lucky bloggers live in countries
where authorities uses every excuses to catch those they don't link
including comments the blogger is not responsible for.
Good for you Google, you want to conquer the world and are still
flexible!!! Then, victory is yours. One more thing for you to resolve:
COMMENTS LIKE IN WORDPRESS ! This is another BIG obstacle. I know you
are capable of this. Good lock to you and Hurry UP!
