Subject: CNAME for Yahoo SmallBusiness
I followed the instructions for the DNS settings last week but it
still hasn't gone through.  My recent posts haven't published and my
layout hasn't changed.

My domain is registered as "melanism.com" but for the CNAME record, i
had to put "www.melanism.com."  Is that the problem?

Sean,

Here's what I see so far:

C:\>ping melanism.com

Pinging melanism.com [216.39.58.194] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 216.39.58.194: bytes=32 time=99ms TTL=56
Reply from 216.39.58.194: bytes=32 time=101ms TTL=56
Reply from 216.39.58.194: bytes=32 time=100ms TTL=56
Reply from 216.39.58.194: bytes=32 time=100ms TTL=56

Ping statistics for 216.39.58.194:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 99ms, Maximum = 101ms, Average = 100ms

C:\>ping www.melanism.com

Pinging ghs.l.google.com [64.233.179.121] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 64.233.179.121: bytes=32 time=102ms TTL=245
Reply from 64.233.179.121: bytes=32 time=78ms TTL=245
Reply from 64.233.179.121: bytes=32 time=102ms TTL=245
Reply from 64.233.179.121: bytes=32 time=103ms TTL=245

Ping statistics for 64.233.179.121:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 78ms, Maximum = 103ms, Average = 96ms

So the primary domain "melanism.com" is directed to Yahoo still.

You need "CNAME" referrals for both "www.melanism.com" and
"melanism.com", if you want to use both for the custom domain.  Or do
you have the primary domain intentionally directed to Yahoo?  I don't
know enough yet about how you're using YSB.

Yahoo SmallBusiness allows me to make a CNAME for "www.melanism.com"
but not "melanism.com"nor will it let me delete or edit the A record
for "melanism.com"

Instructions for Yahoo Small Business are not very robust.

My guess is, if you want to use more than "www.melanism.com", you'll
have to transfer your registration.
