I reported an adult porn site to blogger and received the following message "Hello,Thank you for your note. Blogger is a provider of content creation tools, not a mediator of that content. We allow our users to create blogs, but we don't make any claims about the content of these pages. In cases where contact information for the author is listed on the page, we recommend you working directly with this person to have this information removed or changed.
When you go into a store pornographic material is behind the counter. When you go next on a blogspot blog porn is in your face. Do you see the problem here? Call it censorship or what you will, but I'm surprised that Blogger hosts porn sites and if they are going to host porn sites than perhaps those blogs should be flagged. After all they have the flag system for that reason.
Use the "Flag" feature and notify them. They won't delete the blog, but they might take it out of the random rotation so people who are hitting the "Next Blog" button won't see it. Personally I think they (author) has the right to post anythign they want up there, but that doesn't necessarily mean it should be EASY for my ten year old to get to it by accident randomly scrolling through blogs.
I would hardly call it "in your face" considering I use the next button all the time, and have never seen a "porn" blog. The internet is an international public forum, if you're that sensitive, don't click a button which sends you to a RANDOM publication from someone you don't know. I do not public a porn blog, but I appreciate the fact that blogger doesn't censor it's users, because I realize that what one person finds offensive, another might not, and I realize that if they do start banning certain users, *I* could be next, because someone might be "offended" by something I write.

I don't host a blog for porn, nor do I use the internet for porn. I believe as long as the porn is legal it should not be censored. I agree that it should be flagged and taken out of the random rotation, but that no other actions need to be taken.
To some, pictures and videos of sex and nudity are offensive. To others, religous scriptures and paintings are offensive. To me, George W. Bush is incredibly offensive. I do not and should not have the right to censor any of these things, nor does or should anyone else.
Tommy, I would, however they have disabled the flag bar. "sigh"
Carolina, I'm not the first person who has spoken of clicking the next button and finding porn and I'm sorry that you just don't get it.
I should have the right to click on next and not find porn just as I should be able to go to a store shop for magazines and not see magazines like playboy in my face.
If stores have to keep those magazines behind the counter then there should be some guidelines on the net. Also keep in mind that Pornography, which is legally restricted to adults in the print and broadcast media, is not restricted to children online.
I support freedom of speech, but pornographic material should not be so easily accessed.
People who want to censor porn, and other such things they deem "offensive" are also the same people who get pissed off when others call for Christmas trees or other religious symbols to be "censored"
Live and learn, I guess. You now have been made aware that by clicking "next blog" you COULD find yourself face-to-screen with porn. So you must now decide whether or not you choose to click "next blog."
At this point, it's no different than avoiding an adult book store. You know that if you step inside, you might see porn. If you don't want to deal with that possibility, then you choose not to go in. If you don't want to deal with the possibility of seeing porn when you click "next blog" then you don't click it.
Swtrose wrote: > I should have the right to click on next and not find porn just as I > should be able to go to a store shop for magazines and not see > magazines like playboy in my face.
I just don't get it? Because I don't think the the internet should be trolled by people looking to suppress free speach? Like I said, there are things I find offensive that you might not, should I have the right to keep those hidden from the public square?
Absolutely not, and neither should you or anyone else.
Caroline you have every given right to disagree with my opinions and believes, but do not make a mockery out of them. You are somewhat of a hypocrite aren't you? Wowsers!
Blogger has a right to host porn and not flag porn blogs as objective yet I don't have the right to voice my concerns? Cough, BS!
The flag button was designed for the following reason. "The "Flag?" button is a means by which readers of Blog*Spot can help inform us about potentially questionable content, so we can prevent others from encountering such material by setting particular blogs as "unlisted." Blogger said it best "This means the blog won't be promoted on Blogger.com but will still be available on the web - we prefer to keep in mind that one person's vulgarity is another's poetry. Or something like that."
I'm not objecting so much to the fact that Blogger hosts adult content as I am to the fact that Blogger does not mark that content as objective.
Then you tell me, if you don't want to see it don't click on next. Hypocrite!
Remember that one person's porn is another person's erotica and one persons erotica is another persons porn.
Anyhow I have no desire to sit here and debate with you as you've already judged me knowing nothing about me.
Not only that, but using virtually ANY SEARCH engine, with the most innocent of searches, I'd say 3/4's of the time leads to some sort of porn link/image.
I think you need to lookup the meaning of hypocricy.
I am not judging you, I'm judging your opinion, and telling you I disagree with it, and you're whining, and throwing around personal insults. I'm sorry you can't carry on a conversation without getting upset that someone doesn't share your belief.
I have absolutely no problem with the "flag" button being used, however, CLEARLY, Blogger (much to it's credit) doesn't PATROL it's users watching their content, rather it relies on it's users to flag blogs they find questionable so blogger can check them out, and remove them from being shown when the "next" button is clicked. Anyone can clearly read from this that there may be sites out there that have not been flagged, simply because they are new, or because no one reading them has deemed it necesssary to click the "flag" button yet. You should also be aware that CLICKING A BUTTON THAT SENDS YOU TO A RANDOM WEBSITE ON THE *WORD WIDE WEB) MIGHT TAKE YOU TO SOMETHING YOU DON'T LIKE.
Again, I'm sorry no one is allowed to disagree with you without you calling them names accusing them of "judging you."
What are you looking to gain from this post, Swtrose? You've been given blogger's response and have learned clicking random links is not always a wise decision.
If you're against pornography being so easily accessed on the internet, I recommend using a content filtering system. It's your responsibility to limit your access to such content, not the providers of this content who have every lawful right to post such material.
And speaking of hypocricy. Your sponsored link, http://www.store.todays-woman.net, sells movies that are rated R and have nudity and sexual content in them. There is no warning that you must be 18 to purchase these movies. Are you not linking to similar content you find so offensive?
The only one throwing around insults is you my dear. I have no problem with people disagreeing with me, I have a problem with these kind of comments" People who want to censor porn, and other such things they deem "offensive" are also the same people who get pissed off when others call for Christmas trees or other religious symbols to be "censored"
You have every right to judge my opinion, but please do not stereo type me because I'm concerned with obscenity on the internet and the large number of porn splog blogs on blogger that they do not remove or marks as objective.
I'm sorry that you both miss the point. The point here is the amount of porn splog now on blogger.
Here we are two years later and the number of porn blogs and splogs are manipulating Blogger.
"FightSplog, which monitors new blogs at Blogspot, in 2005 documented 2,763 porn splogs created by a single "splogger." IceRocket at one time even stopped indexing posts from Blogspot because of the porn splog blogs.
Pardon me for budding in here, but there is a huge difference!
Our online store that carries Movies / VHS - Can only be purchased with a credit card or a Paypal account!
In order to have a Paypal account the individual must be of legal age and have a bank account or credit card, to confirm their account before use!
The movies that are listed within our online store are very mild, we don't carry porn or any xxx rated movies!
Their classified mild sexuality or language nothing more. That can not be said for porn. There are no images in your face, unlike these sites!
Big difference! I don't even understand how you can even consider the 2 to be the same?
We offer no graphic images for display on any of the movies, these sites in question are very graphic and you the user don't have the choice not to see it unlike porn flakes..
So pardon me but your off your rocker! If these our even considered the same
This is a pretty easy situation... or should be, for blogger... As a user you should of course be able to choose to have some blogs taken out of the random function. All bloggers should categorize their own blogs and say what type of contents it has. Then the people viewing blogs should be able to choose to not have certain blogs come up when pressing the random button. If you choose no religous content, no adult content or whatever, it should be up to the user to deside. That is not censoring. I dont want anyone to choose for me what I can or cant watch. So this is the only good solutiong to this problem.
Have the sites in question been posted here? How do you know what images or content has even been called into question, Shawn! Everyone's idea of porn is probably different, and that's the point. You sell movies that have nudity and sexual content in them, and swtrose links to you. If I was an ultra-conservative I would consider these movies to be porn, like so many people who label themselves this way do.
You do not need a credit card or a bank account to create a paypal account. You only need those in order to fund your account, unless you're a creative youngster and just have someone else fund your account instead, so how do you protect these youngsters?
And all users have the choice on whether or not they wish to view graphic content. If you don't use a filtering system, you've chosen to view such material.
It seems like you and swtrose have a lot in common, similar views, insult those who don't agree with you and dance around the facts about content filtering.
I think that their is a huge difference in nudity in R rated movies and nudity in an art form than there is in porn. Nude photography captures the beauty of the human form and I do not find nudity offensive. I find teen pornography, pictures of women having sex with animals- and other splog blogs found on blogger obscene.
Also sex found in movies have a story line to them, porn provides nothing more than - well we know what it provides you with. - Self gratification
I best not watch ' Troy' tonight because it shows Bratt Pitts naked butt.
ILovePA thanks for making me out to be a nun. Omg... LMAO!
The content found on our sponsored link is not similar at all. I guess that maybe you have never viewed porn? LOL
With all the porn splogs on Blogger- give it time.
IlovePa, I'm not laughing at the fact that you've never seen porn. I'm laughing at the fact that you've compared sex found in R rated movies to pornographic material found on splog blogs at blogger.
Now I'm confused. First you imply that I'm a hypocrite because we may sell VHS movies that are rated R. Then you ask if I'm really that sick because you think I'm laughing at the fact that you may have never viewed porn.
It is bloggers job to remove the splog found on its service. This is not so much a case of porn and one persons porn being another person erotica and erotica being another persons porn.
It is about the amount of splog found compared to useful results.
Blogger even provides a link where you can report splog. Why have a link to remove it if you're not going to remove it? Porn sploggers are taking advantage of Blogger to make money.
Blogger states, "The steps we've taken have both improved the quality of content on Blog*Spot and improved the Blogger service as a whole. By taking steps like this, we're able to dedicate more storage, bandwidth and engineering resources to our users instead of spammers."
Are they sure?
This blog in question is porn. It is the blog of a porn site. I know what images and content have been called into questions as I am the one who reported the teen porn site. The site in question is even offers live webcam sessions with their models six times daily and Pornographic movies to download. Google says it's porn, yahoo says its porn. The blog is porn.
Shawn knows all about content filtering as he is a computer tech, but that is not the point here.
This issue is not about content filtering or who views porn as objective. It is about the number of splogs found on blogger and as far as I'm concerned the topic is over.
The point has been whatever you chose to make it, and it's over because you say it's over. I'm not surprised, but I will agree. This is my last post in this thread.
Wow.. I came back to this thread and it's gotten a little "personal" since I left at 7 AM this morning. So, WHY am I stepping into this line of fire, exactly? Ack.. well, here goes.
My suggestion was to flag the blog objectionable, because that's what you DO if you, personally, find the content objectionable. However, if swtrose is right and they've hacked the navbar from being seen, well now they ARE making it a little hard not to see them. I'm not going to be a nut-case about it. Hell, I like my porn! (is that legal to say?) That doesn't mean I want my ten year old being able to get to it THAT easily. Erotica is one thing.. we're all aware of the random ideas that people have about what may or may not be considered "porn" to another, but the actual point of the article remains the same.
Do they allow "porn"?: Apparently, in some form or another, yes. Do they allow you to object to it? Also, Yes. If enough people object, what happens?: It gets removed from rotation.
Personally, I find that to be a democratic system of self-regulation and not at ALL a violation of my rights to watch whatever I want. If I WANT to watch porn on the internet, I would be actively seeking porn... not pressing the "Next Blog" button repeatedly in search of... well whatever.
Just out of idle curiousity, and if it's not considered objectionable to anyone here, would the author post the link to this site for us to see for ourselves? If we're going to debate it and throw names around (childish, I might add) then we might as well have the object of the argument available for common consideration.
Just remember guys, we're all here to "help" bloggers. That's what people join this group for. While I agree about not having my rights infringed on, yada yada yada, I'll save my flag waving for independence day.
Tommy http://carolinaregion.blogspot.com (ooh. yeah.. and that link is NOT porn.. lol [Don't go pressing the "flag" button though please!]
Tommy, well said and I will not be posting the link to the porn site in question because then I would be promoting the very content I'm trying to get removed.
"People who want to censor porn, and other such things they deem "offensive" are also the same people who get pissed off when others call for Christmas trees or other religious symbols to be "censored"
Please explain to me how that is an attack on you Rose? It is FACT that people who get upset over others being offended by religious symbols, are some of the SAME PEOPLE WHO TURN RIGHT AROUND and call for censorship of stuff that offends them.
"FightSplog, which monitors new blogs at Blogspot, in 2005 documented 2,763 porn splogs created by a single splogger."
WHO CARES! So we can create an unlimited amount of blogs! Thank you Blogger! Why don't you go create (and document) 2,763 blogs about how you don't like porn blogs, Rose. Furthernmore, please stop citing 2-3 year old articles to "build" your "argument." They're DATED!!!
"In order to have a Paypal account the individual must be of legal age and have a bank account or credit card, to confirm their account before
use! "
You don't have to be 18 to get a banking account, and lying about your age on the internet is SIMPLE - And you better be careful because some of the same people who are crying about porn on the internet, in the future, may be the same ones who complain about sites like yours that sell "R" rated movies, even if it is supposed to be sold to 18+ only, they will realize how is it is to buy stuff on the net when you're under 18.
"This is a pretty easy situation... or should be, for blogger... As a user you should of course be able to choose to have some blogs taken out of the random function. All bloggers should categorize their own blogs and say what type of contents it has."
I agree, users should be able to classify what content they wish to see, for example, a "ratings" system of some sort WITHOUT completely blocking it for the rest of us. Good idea.
" find teen pornography, pictures of women having sex with animals- and other
splog blogs found on blogger obscene."
TEEN does not = ILLEGAL. I can almost guarantee that those "teen" sites you saw had some sort of disclaimer saying that their "models" over 18+.
"Are you really that sick that you actually LOL'd at the fact that I may never have viewed porn? Is that a right of passage in your eyes or something? "
Yes she was. A juvenile "insult" from the same person complaining about "personal attacks" earlier in the thread.
"It is bloggers job to remove the splog found on its service."
Uhmmmm...no, it's not!
" Blogger even provides a link where you can report splog. Why have a link to remove it if you're not going to remove it? Porn sploggers are
taking advantage of Blogger to make money."
They don't REMOVE blogs, they simply remove them from their public listing. Maybe it hasn't been removed from showing up when you click the "next" button because not enough people have flagged it yet. I (and you as well), doesn't that mean we're "taking advantage of Blogger to make money" too?
One more thing ROSE, even if don't think you're a hypocrite for having a link to a company selling adult, "R" rated videos on your site, then you CERTAINLY are a hypocrite for this post: http://rosedesrochers.todays-woman.net/2006/08/15/rose-desrochers-sex... where you complain about people who find the content on your site objectionable, and write:
<i>"This blog contains topics of Sex. If sex offends you, please leave."</i> And then finish out the post with <i>"Sex sells, especially to Web surfers."</i> Accompanied by picture of a billboard with the words "SEX!!!!" written across the top.
HYP.O.CRITE!!!!!!!!!!!
I know that you'll probably ignore this entire post Rose, because you've been called out, but I'll wait while you either apologize for being a hypocrite, or retract your request that blogger censor certain blogs.............
