Hey, Great great idea. I've been reading about this Muthalik for quite some time now and was just brooding to myself - how we could give him an apt answer. This is it. Let's carry out this free hug campaign. Venue? Brigade Road?

Nishu, The pub bharo thing you heard on Twitter is the same I am talking about. Me and @yammyn were discussing we should do a Free hug followed by Pub Bharo. It's a call made by Renuka Chaudury,

The indiblogger thing is on 21st AFAIK

Lets focus on the Free hugs on 14th for the time being shall we?

Lets make placards saying - I love you, Hug Me, Public Display of Violence against Indian Culture, Happy Velentines day etc. Please suggest more. Also lets spread the word amongst the ladies, we need them to make it success, after all Muthalik is targetting the women in particular.

I like this ... 'hug karo aur pub bharo' - kinda catchy

On a more serious note - the free hugs campaign is a great idea.

There's a free hug campaign happening on feb 13,14 all across the world.

details here on this FB event with 333022 confirmed attendees as of now
if you want, you can join, be a part of it.

So how is the facebook group different than what we are planning? Do we have to follow some particular rule to be part of the facebook event or can we simply go ahead do the campaign on 14th? Is there any particular official contact person for Bangalore for the world wide event or is it just a way of spreading word and everybody is free to do the campaign on their own?

Guys, I was on Asianet Channel today. They suddenly came to knwo about our Hug karo Pub Bharo campaign and got my number via someone from Bangalore Mirror. So I told them we want to protest Mr. Muthalik's threats against women visiting to Pubs or celebrating valentines day etc. by doing a free hug campaign through which we want to spread the message of love.

So can we have a head count please on how many of us are going to make it to this campaign and also the timing and venue have to be decided.

Can somebody design a logo please?

We need a large crowd. Cmon guys....

I don't think there is any particular contact person sanjukta. Its
just a concept to be done for valentine's day & it was started even
before ram sene talked against it. We can create smaller event on same
lines & promote through fb.

TF,

I checked the facebook group in detail. As it seems there is nothing common in particular in the world wide campaign, its a name sake, there is no official group or coordinator. As I see it there's a wee bit of marketing strategy involved in it for this site http://www.ultimatet-shirts.com/freehugs.html

What do you think?

I dont think there's any coordinator for this attached to the FB event - bangalore based or otherwise.
it's a concept that anyone anywhere can use anytime apparently.

so you could join in there, or do your own. It's a free world.
In Delhi though, I do know a specific coordinator who's done this many a time and also did it during Delhi Marathon last year.
He's a very prominent fashion photographer - Tarun Khiwal.
He has put up a video of this time as well on youtube. If you google, you could come up with his details and consult him.

Yes, an urge to protest Ram Sene in some way or the other is fast catching up. And almost the most common sentiment seen amongst Indian men women all over the world is to dare the Sene by doing exactly what they are threatening us to not do. If we have thought of Hug Karo Pub Bharo, another group have thought of this http://thepinkchaddicampaign.blogspot.com/2009/02/welcome.html

So, the final timing for Hug Karo Pub Bharo Andolan is 3 pm to 6 pm for the Hug Karo campaign followed by a Pub Bharo. Once again urging all girls to join us.

Venue: We'd gather infront of Brigade Road MG Road crossing, near Cauvery. We may move to other part of the city.

I created a facebook event http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=124313770262

Please spread the word.

Ya Shruti... the time and venue have been finalized.

3pm at the Brigade Road and MG Road crossing, the most easy spot for people to locate.

I was on the NDTV show We the People today and there also I spread the word about this thing we are doing. Also met Dhivya from the Pink Chaddhi campaign group and asked them if they have a time and venue in mind for their pub crawling event, she said they dont but wouldn't mind if somebody takes it up and leads. Since we already have thought of the hugs followed by pub bharo am gonna also put up this info on the pink chaddhi group on facebook.

There are about 21 confirmed participation in Facebook and 14 may be

Hopefully we going to have a large group coming forward this valentine's day.

Why don't u guys come ovr to stones pub in indiranagar where 'heavy

defacto sponsor the pub bharo andolan as its the sponsor for the

The chief of right wing Sri Ram Sene Pramod Muthalik, who had threatened to disrupt Valentine's Day celebrations in Karnataka, was arrested on Friday, state home minister VS Acharaya said in Bangalore.

Muthalik was taken into preventive custody in Gulbarga district in north Karanataka on the eve of Valentine's Day, he said.
