Hi,

Quicksilver is getting a bit slow for me now, with the build (3935).
Dont know if it is related but usually when it happens i get messages like the following in the console:

09/10/12 09:28:09,377 Quicksilver[245]: CGContextSetCompositeOperation: invalid context 0x0

Cheers,

Not sure, but this could be specific to one or more interfaces. Which one are you using? (You can check in Preferences → Appearance.)

I tried Mini-Bezel for awhile and didn’t see any noticeable difference. Have you recently added a large number of things to your catalog? (Perhaps by adding a lot of files to a directory it’s scanning?)

Hi Rob,

No, in fact i've gone the opposite way, as i started to feel QS getting slower i've since removed several items from my catalog making it much smaller.
Most of the times the app lags when i first invoke it, then navigation is fast. After a few minutes without using it happens again.

Cheers.

Something like this used to happen for people that kept an external drive connected (because QS would try to get something from the drive and would have to wait for it to wake up). Could that be a factor here?

I have an external drive connected all the time at work, and it never causes a problem, but I don’t have any of its contents in my catalog.

Well, this might be it.
I didn't noticed my TimeMachine drive was also catalogued. Despite being
an internal drive i think it still may be the cause for this.

I've removed from the index, if this solves it I will report it here.

Thanks for your help Rob!

Unfortunately the issue still happens.
Im not sure it is related to Quicksilver, but im running it on a powerful computer (MacPro) and im not seeing this issues with other apps.

Sometimes, i invoke quicksilver, it wont respond, i try to invoke it a few times and when it finally responds it opens and closes the interface in a rapid succession the number of times i've tried to invoke it.

Cheers.

That tells me that it’s definitely receiving your keystrokes, but it’s waiting on something before it can act.

I don’t know if you’re following the other thread, but does this only happen when Mail.app is running?

Im not using mail.app, i use Postbox.
Today the same thing happened while i had qs interface open. I first opened the interface, tried to interact with it but got no response, after a few seconds (almost 30s) qs basically did everything i tried before in a rapid succession.

Maybe this is not an qs app specific issue but some sort of combination with other app.

Could it be Contacts? I find in 10.8 if I make changes to contacts (particularly if I'm combining Facebook and local contacts) QS spins for quite a while.

Im getting a bit fed up with this.
Besides my MacPro i have Macbook Pro with almost 7 years. Qs i running smother on my Macbook than on my desktop. Constant spinning beach ball, slow to respond, etc.

I've already removed many of the plugins but it didn't improve.

I'll keep an eye on this group in the hopes i find some tip for what's going on.

Thanks again.

Based on everything you’ve said, this definitely sounds like Quicksilver is waiting on a disk to “wake up” or otherwise become available. Do you have anything in your catalog that isn’t on the main drive (even via symbolic link to another drive)?

Something else you could try is creating another user on the same machine and see how Quicksilver performs there. If it’s OK, we know it’s a setting or catalog entry somewhere. If not, it could be a more fundamental hardware issue.

I’m afraid the answer is probably on your machine somewhere, so I don’t know how much help any of us can be.

Jordan, im kinda troubled to say that for now the only solution i could make work was to move to Alfred. Don't get me wrong, i love Quicksilver and have been using for years, still i can't let it be the reason for slowing my work day. It has to be proven that quicksilver was the culprit, but still i had to do something.

I'll wait for the next few app updates to decide if this move is more permanent that what i really want to.

Cheers.

Can you consistently reproduce it ? If you could trigger it and get an get Activity Monitor sample back to me I could take a look.
Having Activity Monitor handy (it's one of my startup items since Lion, tell loads about stability), when QS hangs quickly selects its name in the process list and click the Sample button in the toolbar *while* it's beach-balling. The resulting file would help us immensely in finding the culprit, so if you can send it my way ;-).

Cheers,
