In my catalog, I'd like to set the depth quite high in my (custom) desktop source, but I'd like to exclude some folders to clear up my list. So, I temporarily set the depth to 1 to easily find the Desktop folders I want to exclude in the Contents tab. I proceed to deselect the ones I don't want. Then I return to Source Options and set the depth to 5. What I had hoped is that it would remember which folders I deselected, and not go into them for the catalog. But it appears to forget any items had been deselected when I change depth.

Am I doing something wrong?

No, it’s probably just resetting the exclusion list when you adjust the settings.

Note that excluding the folders probably isn’t doing what you want anyway. It does what you ask literally, so it’ll exclude the folders, but the contents of those folders will still be included unless you deselect every file one-by-one. It almost certainly isn’t worth it.

Also note that you can reach absolutely any file without adding them all to the catalog. Select Desktop, then hit → or / to see its contents. From there, you can select a sub-folder and hit → or / again to drill down further.
