On QS I very frequently type appl to navigate to the /Applications
folder, right arrow to see the list of application and launch it. All
of a sudden when I type appl it does not show /Applications as a
folder but I see "show entry in catalogue." When I click show content
I the the number of items in the bottom of QS window as 135 but the
contents aren't visible.

I have no idea what did I do :-(

You just need to delete Quicksilver's cache so that it can rebuild it.
Last time I had that problem, it was related to a plugin I had
activated, although I can't remember which one it was... I can't
remember which files to delete at the moment, but they'll be in your ~/
Library directory under Quicksilver.

Here are the steps:

Quit Quicksilver, navigate to ~/Library/Caches/ and delete the
Quicksilver com.blacktree.Quicksilver folders, then launch
Quicksilver. It will rescan your catalog and everything will be Ok.
