I tried to launch QuickSilver, but it wouldn't launch. I clicked on
the icon, it bounced a few times, then displayed the QS logo, which
then disappeared, but then it just died.

Have you tried invoking it pressing CTRL+SPACE?

is it showing up in activity monitor?
Were there any messages in the console (both applications can be found in /Applications/Utilities)

For that matter, what version of Quicksilver do you have and where did
you get it? What version of Mac OS X are you running?

It shows in the activity monitor, the dock, and the menu bar.
Then it crashes.

I run Mac OS 10.6.2, and use QS version β56a7 (3825)

A little background - I had some problems and I tried to uninstall the
app (using CleanApp) and just re-download QS. I think that may be
part of the problem. The ~/Library/Application Support/Quicksilver/
Shelves folder is empty because of my attempt to reinstall QS.

The console report for the crash is:

B56a7 is an old version with known problems. Try the newer version at
http://cloud.github.com/downloads/tiennou/blacktree-alchemy/Quicksilver-b57-3840.tar.gz

Well, sure but it should at least start up. :)

I agree that you should go to the newer version, but the problem is probably with a plug-in. I know the AirPort Module and the old Services Menu Module cause crashes under 10.6, so make sure they’re disabled.

It's not that I think guns, drugs, prostitution, swimming, eating and reading should be legal. It's just that no one on Earth has the authority to make them illegal.

B57 supports the Services Menu Module.

This one looks like a private API use to me... QSWindowAnimation uses private stuff (CGSPrivate.h) to handle animations, and I've seen it throw much more warnings since SL. Please open an issue on http://github.com/tiennou/blacktree-alchemy/issues with this crash report. I'll investigate...

I've tried at least a dozen copies by now, and none work. They all
just bounce in the Dock, display the QS logo, then quit unexpectedly.
Not even an error message or a 'Quicksilver quit unexpectedly, an
error report will be submitted automatically' .
