I've cherry-picked some changes from Blacklight master into the Blacklight 3.4.2 release:
- Generate root route FIRST in local app routes.rb
- improved order of generated routes
- fix #413, stop trying to outdo rails routing id escaping

I'm on vacation on Monday (the President is giving us all at Columbia a day
off). So I won't be on the call, but the week after, I definitely want to
talk about potential UI revamps: I think if I'm going to work on this, we
need to get a clear read on what the scope of this is.
