Gotham Writers’ Workshop is the leading creative writing school online
and in New York City. We’re eager to add the right creative and
technical person to our team. This is a unique opportunity to gain
experience and develop new skills in a broad range of technologies.
While this is a highly technical job, we’re looking for someone who is
interesting and dynamic, too. We’re all creative types of some sort.
The Web Developer will work closely with and report to the Director of
Technology to design, develop, and maintain all technology related
projects.This includes online classroom software, our custom learning
management system,informational websites and portals, back-end content
management and financial software, email systems, and server
administration. We’ll think through projects on a high-level while
working through the day-to-day operational details. The Web Developer
will also handle technical support for students and teachers.
While we’re looking for a baseline skill set in regard to current web
development techniques and paradigms, we’re also looking to develop
new tools for teaching creative writing online and on mobile devices.
This is an ideal position for someone eager to contribute from day one
and who embraces new projects and challenges. She or he should also
prefer to work in a small office environment. Gotham Writers’

Skills (at least 2):
LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL , PHP – OO preferred)
Database design and administration
MVC frameworks (Yii Preferred) + legacy non-MVC web code
HTML, CSS, jQuery, XML
Linux Systems Administration (Red Hat)
Ability to explain technical issues to non-technical people
Interest in educational technology
Additional Skills (not deal breakers):
Mobile Application development
Social Media Application development
Mercurial Version Control
Perl, Windows Systems Admin
Knowledge of design and UI aesthetics
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (Masters preferred)
