If you have one of the many computers which use the Philips cm206 cd-rom
drive, you will find that Red Hat Linux doesn't support it.  Ironically,
Slackware does.

I learned that the hard way after purchasing the Red Hat 4 cd-rom set.

Our most recent release, as well as the live CD, includes the 1.3.32 kernels
which do support this drive. The original Red Hat 2.0 did not as it only
included 1.2.13.

I have attempted to use that kernel with no success.  As other threads on
here have discussed, the only viable path seems to be one in which a new
kernel is built at some point during the installation.

I have the 2.1 four CD set, by the way.
