long time ago I heared about Pipes in TSO. Now I asked about this at
our system programmers. They sented the questiuon to IBM (Germany) an
the answer is as follows:
Pipes are valid in Netview. Ther is nothing like this available in TSO.
There is an product IBM BatchPipes. But this is only to make batch
working faster.
????
Ist this TURE?? If not, what can I do, to use pipes in TSO? Which
information I can give to our system programmers?
Thanks
Heinz

For TSO-REXX subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions,
send email to LIST...@VM.MARIST.EDU with the message: INFO TSO-REXX
However, I believe that you could write a Rexx program that uses Unix System
Services, which would enable you to use Pipes there. Others on here would
have better information about this possibility.
Good Luck!!

I wrote a quick-and-dirty program once that did this, and sent back the results via a SEND command. Not elegant, but I was in a hurry, and I never went back to rework it.

BatchPipeWorks: Pipelines for TSO
The BatchPipeWorks feature of BatchPipes for OS/390 is an implementation of
TSO Pipelines at level 1.1.9 sublevel X'1A'. IBM no longer markets
BatchPipes; it is marketed by an Independent Software Vendor, Mark McGrath.
IBM has no plans to enhance the BatchPipeWorks component, though it is still
being serviced.
SmartBatch customers who want more complete documentation for the version of
TSO Pipelines shipped as BatchPipeWorks should get the CMS/TSO Pipelines
Reference from the Runtime Library Distribution or order the VM Collection
CD-ROM (SK2T-2067). The CMS/TSO Pipelines Reference is on Disc 1 of
SK2T-2067 as SL26-0018-02 in bookshelf IKJ2P401.
SmartBatch customers who want more complete online help for the version of
TSO Pipelines shipped as BatchPipeWorks can install the author's help
library <tsohelp.html>.
TSO users who require a version of TSO Pipelines that is more current and
complete than that available in the BatchPipes product can obtain IBM
Denmark's TSO Pipelines Service Offering. (This service offering provides a
TSO adaptation of the latest level of CMS/TSO Pipelines; it is supplied as
unloaded PDSes.) To obtain a quote for the service offering, ask your IBM
salesperson to contact John P. Hartmann by email (John Hartmann/Denmark/IBM
on Lotus Notes; jphar...@vnet.ibm.com via the intranet).

My understanding is that CMS/TSO pipelines is still available through
John in IBM Denmark.
We tried out cms pipes at Ericsson in the beginning of the nineties
and acheived astounding time savings - but the company was migrating
to tso
We never found a sponsor for tso pipes despite the fact that you can
reduce your batch windows by probably 50% at least. I've raised the
question many times in many places, but there's nothing to equal the
stubborn ignorance of those reponsible for program development.
A contributor's problem being forced to write a clist is a typical
example. I may be starting an assignement soon where they expect me to
write clist. Hopefully that's a misunderstanding!
