Hi, all -- I'm a REXX Dinosaur. I just started using it again today,
after nine years away, so I think the Dinosaur appellation's valid.
Dinosaurs were supposed to be pretty simple, and my use of REXX so far
(self-tutoring) has been pretty simple, too -- I'm off to a slow,
creaky start.

Here's my situation:

I've been commissioned to set up a program to report vital statistics
from our production DB2 subsystems on OS/390, and REXX's dual ability
to handle SQL and parse output (from IKJEFT01 in this case) mean it'll
be able to handle anything I can think of in standard output formats.
(I've considered SAS, too, because of its sophistication in formatting
output, but I expect to be handling small amounts of varying-format
input, rather than large files. I think I'll have less code to write
if I do the control logic and input processing in REXX.)

Here's my question, mainly aimed at fellow DBAs and Sysprogs on this
List:

Has anyone got example code which I can cannibalize to query the DB2
Catalog and/or process DB2 commands (that's the easy part, I know)
and/or read the output from same? Better yet, has anyone succeeded in
writing code which would display DSNZPARM values?

Don't all jump in at once! (Ha, ha...)

Hopefully,

Phil the DB2 DBA

P.S. if anyone's got a good recommendation for a REXX programming
tutorial that'll bring me back up to full speed (NOT just the
introductory stuff, I've just been through the REXXLA site's
tutorial), I'm interested in it. I don't have the budget for an
instructor-led course, but I could get reimbursement for an online
course or a good book.

I've got a driver for DSNTIAUL I could send off-line....

Frank, I got your driver. Thanks. It should at least provide a
starting point (once I figure it out! ;-)

Still open for any other contributions, too.

Take a look: http://www.open-softech.com/ for rexxtool - a rexx
package including DB2 and SQL functions.
