Peace and goodwill to you all - thanks for all the advice and interesting
discussions over the year! To those whose language(s) I have missed, I
would be interested to get your version of the greeting (along with the
name of the language)... Also if you wish to correct what I have already
collected, please do so.

God Jul och Gott Nytt År


(BTW, "Jul" originates from the old german "jehwla", via old nordic
"Jol". It's the same as the english "Yule" or finnish "Joulo".
"Jul" is the name of the old nordic pre-christian feast of midvinter,
also called "Julblot" (blot = offer). Another name is "midvinterblot".
It took place at the shortest day of the year and was probably a celebration
of the return of the sun (the days started to be longer again).
In old texts it's also seen used as in "dricka Jul" or "drinking Yule".)
