Hi All

I need some advice on how to "convert" dynamic website to a static one.

The problem is that my ToolBookConsulting.com website uses an old version of
dotnetnuke and SQL Express. For various reasons I'd like to shut down the
SQL express on the server it's running on altogether, but I can't since that
would shut down my site.

I dont get any business from the site but it still gets some traffic,
especially the blog. I havent updated the site in eons but it still has
some good articles and files.

So I am looking for a low effort way of capturing the site as static site so
the folks who use the site can continue doing so
Any suggestions? (BTW. I can live with the fact that the dynamic features
won't work).

Cheers
Tomas

BTW: I am hoping for an automated solution to just "grab" the site. Dont
really want to move the data to a blog like blogspot or similar.

Hey Tomas - I happen to have a program that is supposed to do just that
(http://www.tensons.com/products/websiterippercopier/) . Haven't used it for
a while but will dust it off and give it a shot. Will zip, post and email
you privately results. If not what you're looking for, they have a 30 day
trial you can tweak and grab yourself (not sure of any restrictions).
Cheers, Scott

Hello,

I would recommend old FrontPage, or newer MS Expression Web.

Hi Tomas – not fantastic news. I tried a couple times yesterday to mirror
the site for you but always ended up with a metric craptonne of other files
from unrelated sites – it seems the setting for ignoring other domains is
not working. The program either crashed or I got fed up and killed the
download to see what had been captured. When I attempted to browse a copy
of your site “offline” there were always missing files.

I sent two tech support requests to Tensons.com but haven’t heard back as
of yet. I’m running one more attempt now with an additional filter and will
let you know how it goes. My advice at this point is just make sure you
don’t purchase the program !

Cheers, Scott

Confirmed that the program I'm using is not worth the download, sorry.

Tom,

I tried this one and while there were some errors reported in a log file, it
did seem to get the bulk of the site:

http://www.httrack.com/page/2/en/index.html

It's free. I ran it on an old Windows xp system.

That's the run I've used before with some success. As Martha implies, not 100% but sure saved me a ton of time being able to cut and paste, where needed.
