Which extension for Flash?

Can someone please tell me which extension to install to add a Flash file so I can communicate with it.

I currently have to add a media player, designate the SWF then ungroup it and add actions to the OCX. There must be another way. I tried three different extensions and they didn't work. Flash Document, Shockwave Active X Control and Shockwave Flash Object.

Do I have to install something else? I have CS4 Master Collection on this computer if that helps.

Thanks.

Darrel,

I'm current wrestling with using Flash with Toolbook and I've had to add the
Flash extension also. I'm not at the computer that has Toolbook installed,
but I remember doing the following:

The extension is found in the Windows\System32\Macromedia folder. Add it to
the book. Once you've added the extension, you should see a rectangle with
"OLE" on the tool pallet. Select it then draw your object, just as you
would a button or something.

Hope this helps and I haven't confused you. I'm sure that others with more
experience will give you more precise instructions.

Thanks Sharon. Your instructions are very clear. Unfortunately this still
didn't make a difference. I had that installed already. The extended
properties are grayed out (there are none) for the dragged out box I make
with the extension. Do you have to own special licensing? I own the whole
Master Collection CS4, I would think that any Flash license would be
included.

Maybe I'm just doing something wrong? I have the OLE in the toolbar. I drag
out a box (black, by the way) but there are no extended properties to assign
a flash file. Is there some other method to load a flash file into it?

I can get around this by placing a regular flash player on the page, assign
the file and then ungroup and delete everything but the OCX Shockwave Flash
ID object. From there I can do everything like I added it via the icon on
the toolbar.

Hi Darrel,

After adding the UMP and ungrouping as you mention, go to File Menu -
Extensions to see what has been added. This is what you want to add yourself
in a blank book. For me, it is "Shockwave Flash Object." It points to
Flash10c.ocx in the Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash directory. Sounds like
you have tried this already, but might be worth another shot.

Nice images import script by the way!

Hope this helps,

Great idea. I just checked. It's "Shockwave Flash Object" for me as well.
The file reference is FIDbg10.ocx in the same directory as yours (I don't
have a Flash10c.ocx - weird).

I tried a new book, no good. Even if I just add another page to the book
that I did my work around in, I can't use the OLE in the toolbar and drag
out a new object. If I do, I don't get the extended properties.

Do you think my Adobe suite needs to be re-installed?

Darrel, just use the property browser to edit the extended properties.
