I have Frame 6 doc that gives me this message when I open it: Document named xxx.fm uses unavailable fonts. To reformat the document using available fonts, click OK.
At this point I can either cancel (and not open the doc) or click OK, which converts the unavailable font to Times. There is no option to change it to some other font.
Problem is, now I can't find it in my doc so that I can eradicate the thing! None of my paragraph formats use Times. When I generate an index of references to find the fonts, neither Times nor the old font (MS Shell Dlg) appear on it. When I search for Times as a character format, it is not found in the doc.
I've changed all my character and paragraph formats so they don't use Times. I've selected the entire document, changed all formatting to Body and Default Paragraph Font. It's still claiming I have unavailable fonts.
I'm 99% sure they aren't in the master pages, because they appeared only after I began cutting and pasting from another program, and I haven't touched the master pages since then.
Any ideas on how I can grab this slippery font so I can remove it from my doc?

Yeah, this is a pain. If you click File > Preferences, you can disable Remember Missing Fonts, which is the source of your troubles. Frame 6 appears to be pretty unforgiving about XREFs and missing fonts, and it doesn't allow you to update or regenerate TOCs and Indexes without either disabling the Missing Fonts thing or oepening every file while regenerating.

Do you use any third party tools, like IXgen, for example? Sometimes these add-ons add reference-page information that includes Times and Helvetica fonts.
The problem might exist in a frame or table. If you select the paragraph that contains each frame anchor, for example, and re-set it to the correct para tag and also default char tag, this might fix the issue. Also, check the para tags on each page of your master pages and make sure they are ones you specify and not a FrameMaker default. Unfortunately, while you can search for fonts, you cannot find the errant ones because they get substituted and therefore do not exist to find after your doc opens ;?). If this really bugs you, you could install the offending font, so it doesn't cause the error and get substituted, thus, you can search for, find, and destroy it.

Can you solve it the same Frame6 as in Frame5.5.3?
Click on File -> Preferences and turn off the option Remember Missing Font Names. It might complain once more, but after that the problem goes away.

Thanks for the sleuthing! Looks like the answer is in the File menu. Go to File --> Preferences, and turn off Remember Missing Font Names. Save and close. Open the document again, watch it complain about the missing fonts. Chuckle to yourself because you know that the problem is already solved. Save and close, then open the document again. Problem fonts are gone, complaints are a thing of the past, and everything is rosy again.
Thanks to Darriel and Clayton for pointing out this option. Now I can enjoy my weekend!
