The Society for Scientific Exploration (SSE) is a multi-disciplinary
professional organization of scientists and other scholars committed
to the rigorous study of unusual and unexplained phenomena that cross
traditional scientific boundaries and may be ignored or inadequately
studied within mainstream science.
The Society was founded in 1982 by fourteen scientists and scholars
and now has approximately 800 members in 45 countries worldwide. The
SSE publishes a peer reviewed journal, the Journal of Scientific
Exploration (JSE) and holds annual scientific meetings in the USA and
periodic meetings in Europe. Society members include scholars from a
broad range of disciplines. Topics addressed in its journal and in its
regular meetings cover a wide spectrum, ranging from real or apparent
anomalies in well-established areas of science to paradoxical
phenomena that belong to no established discipline.
This unique multidisciplinary perspective provides challenging
opportunities for creative professional dialog and innovative
research. In addition to the Journal and the Annual Meetings, the SSE
supports a Young Investigators Program. This program is designed and
implemented primarily by its participants, and its purpose is to
provide information and resources pertaining to the scholarly study of
anomalous phenomena and other frontier areas of science.
