There's an interesting side story about Trenberth.
His wife, Gail Trenberth, has been a major promoter of the
unvalidated and highly dangerous psuedo-psychotherapy called
"Attachment Therapy/Parenting" (AT/P) -- through a newsletter, local
support group, and the organization Attachment and Trauma Network.
Trenberth has also served on the boards of the AT/P trade
organization (ATTACh) and the most infamous of AT/P centers
(Attachment Center at Evergreen: see clip from their traing tape
at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8ArqRt7wBE).
The LATimes wrote about Trenberth's child being treated to Holding
Therapy by Connell Watkins, the same therapist that killed 10-year-old
Candace Newmaker in a therapy session. Trenberth supported Watkins
during her trial:

The survivors of AT/P claim the worst part is the parenting which
consists of deprivation, isolation, humiliation, nutritional abuse,
hours of motionless sitting, and excessive chores/exercise (check
out "Survivor Index" at: http://stopchildtorture.org/)
Amnesty International's London research center is currently looking
into AT/P as a form of torture they may take on as a project.
So what are we to think of a noted climate scientist who, at a
minimum, stood by while his adopted daughter was abused for years
the most dreadful pseudoscientific cult in the USA?
