I like the bell ringing idea.

I endorse the call by the 50th Anniversary of World War II Commemoration
Committee that all World War II Commemorative Communities -- which includes VA
medical centers, regional offices and national cemeteries -- lead their local
community observance of Veterans Day by focusing attention on the final week
of the nation's five-year official commemoration of the war's anniversary. The
committee is asking all communities and institutions across the land to
participate in ringing the "Bells of Peace" at 11 a.m., local time, 50 times
to signify 50 years without a world war and the hope that World War II will
become known as the last world war. The plan is for bells to ring throughout
the nation, rolling across America from shore to shore with the time zone
changes. I know VA facilities will be part of this wherever possible as we
honor those who saved the world 50 years ago.
