The flattened organization, developed to provide better user
service with less resources and to better utilize the expertise of all
staff members, requires strong and capable leadership with the vision and
courage to effectively replace bureaucratic hierarchies with other models.
Richard Sweeney, author of "Leadership in the Post-Hierarchical Library"
(Library Trends, 43, no.1 (Summer 1994)), will speak on this topic. His
presentation will be followed by comments from a reactor panel composed of
a diverse group of practitioners who have been through the re-engineering
process.
