at Old Dominion University Libraries

Allan Blank, a well-known Richmond composer and Composer-in-Residence with
the Virginia Chamber Players, is the focus of an upcoming concert and
exhibit sponsored by the Old Dominion University Libraries Diehn Composers
Room. Mr. Blank is Professor Emeritus of Music at Virginia Commonwealth
University where he taught from 1978 until 1996.

The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on April 26, 2001 and will include
the premiere of four recent works specifically selected by Mr. Blank for
this event. It will be held in Chandler Recital Hall in the Diehn Fine and
Performing Arts Center. The concert is a part of the annual Virginia Arts
Festival. Robert W. Cross, director of the Virginia Arts Festival, will be
the music director for this concert, which features the Virginia Chamber
Players.

The exhibit, titled "Allan Blank and the Creative Process," consists of
materials Mr. Blank has donated to the Old Dominion University Libraries'
Diehn Composers Room collection and includes photographs, notebooks,
sketches and correspondence as well as additional items on loan from the
composer for this event. It traces the development of the four pieces to be
premiered in the concert. The exhibit will open to the public on Friday,
April 27th and will run weekdays from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. through May
31st.
