COUNCIL OF EUROPE CONCERNED ABOUT RACISM IN BULGARIA,
SLOVAKIA.
In a report issued on 17 June, a Council of Europe
commission said it is concerned about racism in Bulgaria,
Slovakia, and several other European countries. The European

particularly worrying. The report says Roma face
discrimination in Slovakia as well, particularly in jobs,
housing, health care, and education.
It adds that Slovakia's ethnic Hungarians face discrimination,
particularly in restrictions imposed on the use of their mother
tongue. MS

(GjF comment --- No doubt it is because of the rampant racism in
Slovakia that flocks of Roma and "socially-handicapped" people are
fleeing Czechia for Canada and Britain, or moving to Hungary in
droves.) See below as another example of the nationalist racism of
the Slovaks concerning the Hungarian minority:)

SLOVAK PARLIAMENT REJECTS BILL LIMITING HUNGARIAN EDUCATION. The
Slovak and Hungarian opposition, supported by some representatives of
the governing Movement for Democratic Slovakia, voted down on 2 July
an amendment submitted to the parliament on Hungarian-language
education in Slovakia. The bill, drafted by the Education Ministry,
would have required Hungarian pupils to study history and geography in
Slovak and use a curriculum and text books approved by the
ministry. MSZ

(GjF comment -- What horrible things will those Slovak Fascist
Nationalists think of next? Allowing bilingual signs? Heaven Forbid.
See below a truly enlightened, EU-NATO approved civilized way to
treat minorities:)

Csaba Tabajdi, outgoing political state secretary at the Prime
Minister's Office in charge of minority affairs, has said he is
concerned about the new cabinet's program on minorities in Hungary as
well as ethnic Hungarians abroad. He told journalists on 1 July that
the program is a "step backward" in terms of political autonomy for
minorities as it lists the Roma population not as a minority group but
as "socially handicapped" people. According to Tabajdi, that
designation implies some kind of "assimilation drive". He observed
that the minority issue is important for the new government only
inasmuch as it serves the cause of ethnic Hungarians abroad. MSZ ----
