The primary intent of the announcement was to begin the orderly end of support of MNLB on the old
c7500 routers with channel interface processor (CIP). Secondarily it is a statement of direction,
saying that we are not committing to supporting MNLB on the next generation of Catalyst 6500
switches. Sort of analogous to saying something may not be supported on z11 processors. Effectively,
it says that now may not be a good time to begin planning for an MNLB deployment, but that existing
installations shouldn't be too concerned. The actual starting point of a multiple year end of life
process will be a future announcement of end of sale of either the Supervisor 720, or of 12.2S IOS.
Marie-Francoise, I'd appreciate it if you would contact me off list if your organization is
currently using MNLB. I maintain a list of MNLB users, and may have missed you.
