Hex Long Floating Point & REXX 
  Hi @ll, has someone ever tried to extract fields SMF30DDS and SMF30DDR (long floating point hex) or any field in REXX? There are a couple of F2"something" routines out there but it seems that none of them produce the right value. Has somebody a REXX example for me? ADRDSSU performance degradation 
  Hi, It's because to support 256k when writing and reading a tape, adrdssu use know bsam rather than excp for dump /restore. Unfortunately, it's the default, thus to have a good throughput, you use more cpu cycle. To avoid that, code PARM='USEEXCP=YES' with DCB=BLKSIZE=65520 on the output dataset or if you wan't modify your JCL JOB, use the DSS exit (ADRUIXIT) to set the UFOPARM of UFOEXCP to ON to eliminate the need to code the parm useexcp and blksize=65520.... more »

DFHSM QUESTION - ARC0378I 
  G'Day,   I have a problem with a backup tape.  HSM was performing its scheduled incremental backup when a problem occurred with the drive.  The tech. needed the drive to fix it so I had to cancel HSM, however I stopped all activity,  also, since the window for PRIMARY SPACE MANAGEMENT had been passed the backup function was not running.... more »

Rather interesting article on "hacking the mainframe" using ftp 
  [link] basically the person must be able to ftp into a UNIX subdirectory and to submit a job. They upload a program called "netcat" into a data set starting with their RACF id. They then submit a job which copies the data set into the /tmp subdirectory with a "random" name, chmod the... more »
