You can use non-scratch tapes by calling them with specific volser's (your
"normal" tape processing) and then have a single scratch pool for the
CA/Plat tools. The catch is that you will not be able to have multiple
"pools" of scratch tapes; so all the CA/Plat tools will share a common pool
of scratch tapes. Also, you will have to work something out to "scratch"
those tapes inside the VTS. Usually, the tape management system would
interface to OAM to inform SMS that a tape has changed status from ACTIVE to
SCRATCH; this will have to be done manually or with your own in-house
written program (based on what?).

Subject: VTS running in dual mode
Hi everybody,
I have a problem and couldn't find anything appropriate neither in the
archives
nor in the redbook SG24-2229-03.
Usually our installation works with volsers, for the CA/Platinum Tools I
need
scratch tapes, however. So I would like to know if it is possible to run VTS
with volsers and scratch tape pools in parallel?
We have no Tape Management System. (OS/390 v 2.10)
Any contribution will be appreciated.
TIA
Thomas
