I am trying to load several unlabeled tapes into the VTS ( Servpac
Tapes).
I have defined the volumes with IDCAMS:

CREATE VOLUMEENTRY -
(NAME(VM423AA) -
LIBRARYNAME(SWANAT1) -
STORAGEGROUP(SGNTON1) -
MEDIATYPE(MEDIA3) -
RECORDING(384TRACK) -
USEATTRIBUTE(PRIVATE) -
SPECIALATTRIBUTE(READCOMPATIBLE) -
LOCATION(LIBRARY))

When I try to enter the tapes I get the following messages:

CBR3621I ENTER REQUEST IGNORED BY THE CARTRIDGE ENTRY INSTALLATION EXIT
(CBRUXENT).

CBR3620I ENTRY OF VOLUME M423AA INTO LIBRARY SWANAT1 FAILED.

I have done this before but it has been a while. What step am I missing.

We are z/os V1R9 and we use CA-1.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

I think you should work with your TMS, that means CA-1, which I don't know. CBRUXENT provides the message about "insert event" to TMS and TMS role is to approve the tape or reject it. Hi Mark,

I am assuming that you meant ATL/VTS, yes?  And the tapes are SL, but have no external barcode label?  When loading tapes not defined to the TMC, we always used the "enter foreign tape selection on the ATL panel".  Then in JCL, we pull them in with VOL=SER=xxxxxxxx , LABEL=(1,SL,EXPDT=98000).  For foreign tapes, we never had to define a volcat entry for them.  We also use CA-1.  We ran a fair number of non-TMS controlled tape in or ATL for a long time.

HTH,

Linda Mooney

Mark, The messages indicate that the tape was left in the insert category.
Most likely your CBRUXENT entry exit has decided to 'ignore' a tape because
it is not defined in the TMC.

If you want the tape used despite not being defined to TMC, you need to
customize the exit. Alternatively, can you define the tape to your tms?

To use a tape in an IBM system managed library you must have a TCDB volume
entry. You can add that using IDCAMS if the tape is already in the library
and in a suitable category, or you can insert the tape and have the TCDB
entry created during entry processing.
