When I look in my processor definition in HCD, the serial number is
0427009672. What is the 04 mean ? Is it the number of LPAR's because I do
have 4. When I do a
D M=CPU, the output shows me the engine, LPAR id, serial number, and model.

Not.
The second nibble is the user specified partition ID which is contained
in the activation profile for each partition (and must be unique).

Ahhhh, different question... sorry. That is just the full physical
frame serial number. It has nothing to do with the number of LPAR
images or model.

your HCD display shows the full serial number...
The D M=CPU display for each IP only shows the last four characters of the
serial number followed by the processor model "9672"
14.11.11 ST06 IEE174I 14.11.11 DISPLAY M 212
PROCESSOR STATUS
ID CPU SERIAL
0 + 0381899672
1 + 1381899672
2 + 2381899672
3 + 3381899672
CPC ND = 009672.X57.IBM.02.000000048189
CPC SI = 9672.X57.IBM.02.0000000000048189
CPC ID = 00
Similarly my display shows 048189 as the serial number.

No. As I said, it is just part of the full physical serial number for
the box.

There are subcodes, are there not, that identify the plant of
manufacture?
I wonder what the z800 will have.
