Subject: Re: Internet Cleaning
I know this is really, really behind, but I've been swamped for the past
month and I've just seen that this was posted here...
I work on The Computing Help Desk at MIT. We answer questions on Mac,
PC, Mainframe and general networking issues/problems for the MIT community.
Can you imagine how many calls we got related to this hoax? It was
amusing now that I look back on it, but it's just not fun to be able to
answer only 20% of your incoming calls on a particular day - that day
we received the most calls we've ever gotten in a single day - Since we
were only able to answer 20% of them, I can only assume a significant number
of the abandons were related to that hoax, considering the number of calls
that got through.
Next time I just wish someone would use a fake university name!

*** Attention ***
It's that time again!
As many of you know, each leap year the internet must be shut down for
24 hours in order to allow us to clean it. The cleaning process, which
eliminates dead email and inactive ftp, www and gopher sites, allows
for a better-working and faster internet.
