peace friends,
i just got this "sad news" email. barbara cameron, co-founder of GAI
(Gay American Indian) in san francisco (the first native american gay
and lesbian organization established in 1975), and an author who aside
from her own book, "no apologies: a lakota lesbian perspective"
contributed to the revolutionary anthology, "this bridge called my back"
and who spoke out at countless conferences, marches and rallies,
recently passed away. please read the email below.
with blessings and love,
geeta citygirl

Hello folks,
I just got a call from a friend. Longtime community activist and founder
of the Gay American Indian Movement Barbara Cameron died February 12th.
It is unclear at the moment what she died of, it may have been a heart
attack. Barbara had been in and out of the hospital in January but this
was still a surprise. Her life partner Linda Boyd is in South Dakota
with Barbara's family. I am helping to let folks know. A memorial will
be planned in 4-6 weeks.
Linda is in a rough place. Her dad and favorite cousin died recently.
Also last year she and Barbara were given 30 days to move at the height
of high rents because the owner put their longtime residence on the
market. Note the new address below. Their son just left for MIT so Linda
is alone now for the first time in over 20 years. It would be great if
folks could send cards, letters and stay in touch with her. Her friend
also suggested that instead of flowers send her a check to assist with
the medical bills that had piled up.

Thanks and pass this on to folks you think should know.
Aloha,
Lani
