Many of us who come out in middle-age have found that friends and
colleagues who have known us throughout our lives gain a new awareness of
the discrimination that blights the lives of lesbians and gay men. It is
regrettable that Reverend Mel White should not have been able to share his
own joy and enlightenment with so influential a figure as his ex-colleague Pat
Robertson. As an atheist in England, I cannot expect the Christian
Broadcasting Network to care about my views but homophobia, like
homosexuality, is universal and as a gay man, thousands of miles away, I feel
personally offended by Pat Robertson's obstinancy and ignorance. I therefore
send Mel White my full support in his current situation.
