I must apologize for posting so many questions to this forum over the last
couple of weeks. School is ending and we are lining-up our summer
projects. There have been some very helpful responses, I hope others on
this list with similar questions are benefiting from the responses to my
inquiries...
So, here is another one. I have been given the task to design a digital
video curriculum unit for next year. The good thing is that I have a
little personal experience with digital video recording and editing. The
bad news is that I have no experience teaching it to 8th graders, so I am
looking for resources and idea.
The outlines of the project:
The dv class will be taught as a pull-out class with student groups of
from 8 to 18, 2 hours every other week for 2 months (8 hours) then a month
hiatus followed by a three month period (12 hours). It's kind of crazy,
but that is what I was given.
The other good thing is that I will have new MacBooks and Canon digital
camcorders (ZR800) at a ratio of two students per setup. Not bad. 8-)
So, what the heck am I going to do with all this? I haven't taught video
before, so I am looking for ideas and resources that can help guide me, or
experience that others have had. Many years ago, I heard of an
organization in California that focuses on using video in schools (allied
with or promoted through CUE, I believe), but I can't remember it's
name...
OK, I admit that I am fishing. K-12 video discussion lists? web sites?
forums? blogs?
Thanks in advance.

I have never taught a video class so I don't have a whole lot of resources
but look through http://del.icio.us/dpresident/video and you may find some
resources there. Another option would be to use the camcorders for content
based digital storytelling projects. I have a few links at

Good luck,

Here are links to a few lessons I created as part of my Cyber Safety through
Information Literacy series. They are non-hardware specific and focus on
videography techniques. I hope they help.
<http://www.wiredsafety.org/wiredlearning/vidtips/index.htm>Video Tips and
Techniques - While PowerPoint is the presentation tool of choice for many, our
students live in a visual and interactive world. Visual literacy and
videography are important skills for them to have. This presentation created
with the help and permission of <http://www.andycarvin.com>Andy Carvin,
provides students and teachers with tips and techniques used by the pros.

announcements are great vehicles for developing media literacy. This lessons
shows what it takes to get an effective message across in the form of a PSA.

I am perfectly capable of learning from my mistakes.
I will surely learn a great deal today.

Ken,
Take a look at the links to my 6th-grade video class and my 8th-grade ETV
