Subject: Internet Radio
From: Akesha <horto...@msu.edu>

I am trying to find software/information that will allow for the creation
for a real time radio broadcast over the net.
I would like something that allows for a broadcaster to accept phone calls
during the broadcast.

I like the  format of http://www.blogtalkradio.com/, however the premium
service is quite expensive, and the only option that does not allow BlogTalk
to make claims on the material produced for the broadcast.

Please advise of any options you may know of at your earliest convenience..

Kindest Regards,

SHOUTcast (www.shoutcast.com), which is actually owned by AOL, is the most
common way to do this.  It is free and runs on any platform.  I have seen
a couple others like Streamer (www.streamerp2p.com -- open source, Windows
only)  and Pirate Radio (www.pirateradio.com -- $40, Windows only).
Between these two, Pirate Radio seems quite easy to set up.

If you don't want the hassle of running your own server, there are many
places that will host SHOUTcast for you, for a fee.  Many of them are
listed at www.radiotoolbox.com/hosts

www.radiotoolbox.com is a good place for general information about setting
up your own internet radio station.
