Subject: Web based audio recording and video recording
From: "Kristen  Walker" <kwal...@sbceo.org>

We have a teacher in our county who would like to create audio files of her
spelling word lists for her students.  I let her know about Spelling City,
but she would really like to do a project where her GATE Students record the
spelling lists, and then link them to her website so that her students can
use the audio files to study for the test.

One site I found that seems to have simple audio recording capabilities is
http://www.aviary.com/.  This teacher is not extremely comfortable with
technology, and it also needs to be something that is easy enough for her
4th grade GATE students to help with.  Does anyone know of any other web
based audio capture sites?

She is also interested in possibly doing video for another project, so I was
wondering if anyone knows of any web based video capturing websites that
would allow her to make small movies with her web cam to upload to her site.

Thanks!
Kristen

Hi Kristen,
I don't know if you are using PC or Mac.  On a PC, there is a simple
little recording app called Sound Recorder.  It does a decent job of voice
recording.

I find it under All Programs, Accessories, Entertainment. I would bet
there is a Mac equivalent.

Dear Kristen,

You can't go wrong with Audacity and it's free! Record: then export the
audio as a .wav or mp3 file.

Have you considered installing Audacity instead?  It is an open source,
free, very easy to use software. You will need to also install the LAME
encoder which is also a free, open source plug in which allows you to very
easily export the files as MP3.

Our third graders find Audacity very easy to use.
